At only 4-6 riders plus the safety support crew, this adventure is intended to be able to adjust quickly to the changing needs and wants of the participants. Lodging, meals, routes and activities between our anchor hotels (the must-see locations) will be flexible. You will receive a full day of training on your Tenere 700 before we head over the Strait of Gibraltar into Morocco, and you will also receive training on how to do daily maintenance on your bike. Our support vehicle will be with us for added safety and security, but riders will be responsible to travel as if we didn't have any support; you will carry all the gear you need for your adventure on your motorcycle.
This is an "anchor point" adventure with specific hotels at key "must-see" locations that are reserved, while the travel days in between are flexible. This will truly be modeled as a "traveler" trip with all of the rewards and risks of not having every day detailed out, but with the advantages of having a safety support vehicle and experienced world travelers and professional trainers with you.
We will be on the bikes for 14 days plus 2 days for arrival and departure for a total of 16 days.
We are exploring as a team, which means that we are only as fast as the slowest rider, and emergency medical care is a very long distance away. We have traveled with many groups and have determined these skills are essential:
1. You must be able to make a left u-turn from a stop within 20′ (6m). Failure to make a very tight u-turn will result in you running wide and finding yourself head on with traffic.
2. You must be able to maintain a minimum speed of 30mph (48kph) on unpaved roads (dirt, gravel, sand). We will be traveling through some remote regions and failure to keep a minimum speed means we will not reach our hotel… or any hotel… by nightfall.
The rest we can work with. Please keep a humble attitude and recognize that Bret might make decisions for you, based solely on your riding ability, given his 27 years of training motorcyclists as a full time career.
3. You must be able to proficiently ride an unmodified Tenere 700 with luggage in traffic, on high-speed paved roads and on unpaved roads. This trip does include a full day of training before we leave as a group to become familiar with the Tenere 700 and to learn or polish your riding skills.
4. You must be able to handle high-stress environments with a positive attitude to include dense traffic, adverse weather, uncomfortable accommodations, sudden unplanned changes and unfamiliar foods.
5. You must be able to get into and out of a full squat, preferably without touching the ground. There are many squat toilets in Morocco and the concrete around the squat toilets is, to put it nicely, nasty. Locals can squat fully to do their toilet business and there are no hold bars.
Specific boots are required for this tour. Review this list to ensure you have the correct gear. If you show up without the correct boots, you may not be permitted to ride and will not receive a refund.
Please contact Bret if you have any specific questions regarding boots (ie. foot size and boot availability).
Make sure you read what is and what is not included when booking this trip. Depending on your preferences for sharing a room, drinking and food we estimate that you will spend between $1400 USD and $2100 USD during the trip.
You will also have a $2500 USD damage/expense credit card hold or deposit on the first day of the trip. This will be released or refunded at the end of the trip minus any damage or expenses that were not paid for during the trip.
This is a small group trip of only 4-6 other riders plus staff. Single occupancy is our goal during the anchor spots but cannot be guaranteed on our flexible travel days.
The itinerary we've included shows only the expected anchor spots and is subject (and likely) to change before our arrival day and/or during the trip. No stops are guarantees as this is a real adventure with unforeseeable events.
